We love that you chose us for your unique place to stay during your trip to Central Kentucky. Our hope is to make your stay truly fabulous. The great thing about staying at an AirBnB is the way you can find unique places that are unusual and distinctive. So much charm to experience!! With that every Air BnB listing is different and offers different things. No two listings are alike in any way. This makes it difficult to know what to expect. Be sure to read through this link. It will help you prepare for your stay with us and our unique charm at the Gopher Wood Getaway. First time guests and new Air BnB users find it helpful to understand what to expect before arriving at our property. Here’s what you can expect from Siloam Valley while being a guest at our Gopher Wood Getaway.
The entire cabin will be yours. Please make yourself at home and enjoy the serenity. The property owners do live on site in a separate dwelling. If you need anything during your stay, don’t hesitate to ask! You can also reach the property manager for help.
Feel free to check in anytime after 4pm the day of your reservation. If you need access before that, please contact the property manager for availability. Please be checked out by 10am. (Check out time CHANGED RECENTLY due to COVID-19 cleaning procedures)
There is one bunk room with 2 bunks. One is twin over twin. The other is twin over full. We do provide sheets and bedding for your stay. We do not offer daily cleaning service. If you should need extra bedding, just let us know. There is also a Euro sleeper in the living room. The bedding for this is kept in the closet in the bedroom or under the futon in the living room. We keep a cot in the closet as well. But we do not provide bedding for it. Feel free to bring you own bed roll.
Overall, our cabin is designed for families. Though we allow groups of any kind to stay up to 8, our beds and accommodations are really designed for that family model. Mom, Dad, kids. The twin mattresses are the standard 6″ foam bunk mattresses. Or full is a nice 12″ memory foam.
Our bathroom has one standing shower, a sink, mirror and toilet. We will provide enough towels for every person listed on the reservation. This includes a bath towel, hand towel and wash cloth. Again, we do not offer daily cleaning services. If you should need any new towels during your stay, please let us know. Please note that our cabin is on septic system. Please do not flush anything down the toilet other than the provided toilet paper. Please place all sanitary products in the trash provided. Our septic system can not handle anything other than the provided septic safe paper.
Because are on a septic system, we will provide all toilet paper for your stay as it requires a unique kind. We try to make sure there is a good supply left in-between guests, but if you need more during your stay, just ask.
We will provide a starter roll of paper towels. After that, you will need to add that to the grocery list.
There is no TV or wi-fi available at our Gopher Wood Getaway. In fact, due to the rural location there is no wi-fi on the entire campus. Most cellular providers work fine from the cabin. So your cell phones should be sufficient should you need to access the world. We also do not have a land line in the cabin. It truly is a “getaway” location.
We do keep some games, cards, activities, books and toys in a small cabinet and under one of the bunks in the bedroom. Feel free to make yourself at home.
We have an AC/Heat unit in the main living room. There are ceiling fans in each main room. We also leave a space heater in the closet during the winter months in case you need more heat in the bedroom. In the summer months, we keep a fan in the cabin. Please use as needed to keep comfortable.
The kitchen is fully stocked with pots, pans, kitchen utensils, plates, bowls, oven, range, sink, etc. Everything you need to make meals should be found in the kitchen cabinets. If you find yourself needing something you can’t find, just let us know. We also stock zip lock bags, Kuereg cups for the coffee maker, a few complimentary snacks and leave some cold water for your arrival in the refrigerator. Due to space the refrigerator is small. If you need more space, you are welcome to keep a cooler on the porch. We do have one you can use during your stay. Let the property manager know at least 48 hours before your arrival if you want to use this. Just be mindful of the local critters helping themselves & take precautions. Ice should be available at both gas stations off the exit to the cabin. (This is subject to change). Be sure to check out our Air BNB Guide Book to information on the closest grocery stores and restaurants.
There is a great outdoor space with a lovely view. We keep plenty of camping chairs in the deck box. Feel free to spread out and enjoy the space. Simply return the chairs to the deck box on the porch before you leave. We have a small fire pit and we do have firewood provided for a donation. You might want to bring some kindling and matches/lighter. There is also a park style grill that uses charcoal and some grill tools in the cabin pantry closet.
Our cabin is located in Owen County which is the deer mecca of the state adjacent to a nature preserve. If you sit quietly on the porch in the mornings and evenings, don’t be surprised if you find deer very close to the front porch.
There are variety of birds that visit the cabin. See how many you can spot!
